About Us

Books belong
to everyone.

"A child without access to books is a child whose world is smaller than it needs to be. We're here to change that."

Library on Wheels is a nonprofit that believes every child in India deserves access to books, stories, and the joy of reading — regardless of where they live or what resources their family has.

Katheya is our answer to the question we kept asking: what if the library could fit in a teacher's pocket?

Our Mission

Library on Wheels brings books, reading resources, and literacy programs to children across Karnataka who have no access to libraries — reaching villages, schools, and communities that the traditional education system has left behind.

What we stand for

Built on
conviction.

01

Language is identity

Kannada is not a second language — it is the first language of millions of children. An app that treats it as a fallback has misunderstood the people it is trying to serve. Katheya treats English and Kannada as equals.

02

Access is a right

Katheya is free. Not freemium. Not ad-supported. Free. The children who need it most are the ones who cannot pay for it, and that will never be a barrier to reading.

03

Technology must serve the child

Every feature in Katheya — from OCR scanning to vocabulary tagging — exists to help a specific child understand a specific word on a specific page. AI is a tool, not the point.

04

The teacher is irreplaceable

Katheya is a companion, not a replacement. The best learning happens with a teacher or parent present — our app is designed to make that time richer, not to substitute for it.

·

Why we built
Katheya.

Library on Wheels runs mobile libraries — buses and carts stocked with books — that travel to schools and villages across Karnataka. We've seen what happens when a child encounters a book in their own language for the first time.

Katheya was built to extend the reach of those libraries into every moment. When the bus can't come, the app can. When the teacher is stretched across forty students, the app listens to one child repeat a word until they get it right.
